How to Design a Custom 1kg Date Gift Box
A practical guide to sizing, radial compartments, food-contact materials, branding and MOQ for a premium half-moon date and chocolate box.
Premium dates are not all the same size. Large Medjool dates, smaller varieties, individually wrapped pieces and chocolate-coated dates occupy different volumes even when the net weight is identical. That is why a buyer asking for a “1kg date box” should treat 1kg as the performance target—not the only dimensional input.
1. Start with the product, count and packing pattern
Before a structural drawing is made, send the packaging supplier the filled weight, target piece count, average product dimensions and whether each item is wrapped. If the gift contains several date varieties or a dates-and-chocolate assortment, list the quantity and size of every item.

- Target net weight and number of pieces
- Single-variety or mixed-assortment plan

A physical packing test with the real product—or accurate product samples—should validate the final dimensions. This prevents empty gaps, pressure damage and an inaccurate 1kg capacity claim.
2. Engineer radial compartments for presentation and protection
The half-moon opening and radial divider create a distinctive reveal for Ramadan, Eid and premium corporate gifting. The compartments can separate date varieties, flavors or chocolates while reducing movement during presentation.

3. Specify the food-contact layer separately
The rigid outer box is typically built from greyboard wrapped with printed or specialty paper. Greyboard supplies strength, but it is not normally the direct food-contact surface. The dates or chocolates should use an appropriate food-grade paper, tray, cup, liner or sealed individual wrap.
Tell the supplier the exact food type, whether it is oily or chocolate-coated, the expected shelf conditions and the destination market. Food-contact compliance should be confirmed for the selected material and actual use case; a general “food-grade” statement is not a substitute for the buyer’s regulatory review.
4. Design the half-moon structure around the opening experience

5. Plan custom logo and Ramadan branding
Color, printed artwork, foil stamping, embossing and logo placement can be customized. Green and gold are suitable for the sample concept, but the final palette should follow the brand and campaign. Provide vector artwork, Pantone references when available, required languages and any market-specific cultural guidance.
